Accessibility Statement

Last updated: March 10, 2026

Our Commitment

TractData is committed to ensuring that every person can access and use our neighborhood data platform, regardless of ability. We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at the AA level.

Accessibility Features

TractData includes the following accessibility features:

  • Semantic HTML: Proper heading hierarchy, landmark regions, and meaningful page structure throughout the platform
  • Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements are reachable and operable via keyboard, including search, filters, tabs, and comparison tools
  • Screen reader support: ARIA labels, roles, and live regions are used to communicate dynamic content changes such as search results and tab panel updates
  • Color contrast: Text and interactive elements meet or exceed WCAG AA contrast ratios
  • Responsive design: The platform adapts to screen sizes from 320px to large desktops and supports text resizing up to 200% without loss of content
  • Reduced motion: Animations respect the prefers-reduced-motion media query for users who are sensitive to motion
  • Focus indicators: Visible focus rings on all interactive elements for keyboard users
  • Data tables: School data tables include proper headers and captions so screen readers can convey the structure

Known Limitations

We are aware of the following areas where accessibility may be limited:

  • Interactive maps: The school location maps may not be fully accessible to screen reader users. Equivalent information (school address and nearby schools) is available in text form on every school profile page.
  • Data visualizations: Charts and graphs include text alternatives, but some complex visualizations may not convey all details to assistive technology users. The underlying data is always available in table format.

Testing

We test TractData with the following tools and methods:

  • Manual keyboard-only navigation testing
  • VoiceOver (macOS/iOS) and NVDA (Windows) screen readers
  • axe-core automated accessibility scanning
  • Lighthouse accessibility audits
  • Color contrast analyzers
