TractData is a neighborhood data platform that helps people explore and compare places across the United States. We are committed to transparency in both the data we display and how we handle your information.
Data We Display
All neighborhood and school data on TractData comes from publicly available sources, including:
- U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) — housing costs, demographics, income, and commute data
- FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) — annual crime statistics by city and category
- California Department of Education (CDE) public datasets such as CAASPP test results, enrollment figures, staff demographics, and financial reports
- National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) Common Core of Data
- Education Data Collaborative (EDC) — school test scores for all 51 states
TractData is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of these government agencies.
Information We Collect
TractData does not require user accounts. We collect minimal information to operate the service:
- Usage data: Pages visited, search queries, and general interaction patterns. This is collected through standard web server logs and analytics to improve the service.
- Address or location data: If you use the “Find Your Place” feature, the address you enter is sent to a geocoding service to identify nearby places. We do not store your address.
- Cookies: We use essential cookies for site functionality (such as theme preference). We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide and improve the TractData service
- To understand how visitors use the platform
- To diagnose technical issues
We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Third-Party Services
TractData uses the following third-party services:
- Google Places API: For address autocomplete in the school finder. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Vercel: For hosting and analytics. Subject to Vercel's Privacy Policy.
Children's Privacy
TractData is designed for adults making decisions about where to live. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The platform does not require any form of registration or account creation.
